Hemingway's Havana
The fishing village, the farm on the hill, and the daiquiri he made famous.
Half a day on the trail of the man who stayed twenty years. We start at Finca Vigía, his farm on the hill above San Francisco de Paula, where the typewriter still stands and the Pilar rests under the trees. Then down to Cojímar, the fishing village behind The Old Man and the Sea, for the seawall, the little fort and the bust the fishermen paid for themselves. Back in Old Havana we climb to room 511 at the Ambos Mundos and end at El Floridita, where the daiquiri was made for him and the one at the bar is on us. All of it in a '50s car, with a photographer in the passenger seat.
